CSV Column Extractor — Select and Reorder
Select CSV columns by number, reorder them and optionally drop the first row
Runs in your browser · nothing is uploaded
Columns are numbered from 1 and appear in your requested order. Repeated numbers are included once. Every row must have the same width. Uncheck to drop a header row. Cell values remain strings.
How to use
- Paste CSV data into the input.
- Select its delimiter: comma, semicolon, tab or pipe.
- Enter column numbers such as 1,3. Their order determines the output order.
- Uncheck Include the first row to remove a header row.
- Copy the resulting CSV.
Parsing rules
Columns are selected by one-based position, not by header name. Dropping the first row removes that row whether or not it actually contains headings. Quoted delimiters, quoted line breaks and doubled quotation marks are handled as CSV. An initial byte order mark is removed, and output line endings use LF.
Empty lines are skipped, but all remaining rows must have the same width. Inconsistent rows, unclosed quotes and out-of-range column numbers produce errors. Duplicate requested columns keep their first occurrence. Numbers, dates and boolean-looking cells are not automatically converted.
Example
For a header of name, city, note and a row containing 민수,서울,中文😀, selecting 3,1 returns note, name followed by 中文😀,민수. Selecting only 1 and dropping the first row returns 민수.
Limits
The tool accepts up to one million input characters and works with pasted text. Formula-looking values are preserved as data; a spreadsheet application may interpret them when you paste or import the result. No CSV data is uploaded to a server, and the tool does not save your input.
FAQ
Do column numbers start at zero or one?
They start at one. Entering 3,1 returns the third column followed by the first. A repeated number is included only once.
Can quoted cells contain commas and line breaks?
Yes. Standard CSV quoting is parsed, and fields are quoted again as needed in the result.
Are numbers or dates converted automatically?
No. Cell values remain strings, so leading zeros in values such as 001 remain present in the output CSV text.
