AOV and Conversion Rate Calculator
Average order value and conversion rate, with goal-based orders and visits
Runs in your browser · nothing is uploaded
Total revenue in the period.
Number of orders in the same period. At least 1.
Visitors or sessions in the same period. Enter it to get the conversion rate.
What you need to reach a goal (optional)
Assumes today's order value and conversion rate, and gives the orders and visits you need.
Shows the orders and revenue you would get at this rate with the same number of visits.
Order value and conversion rate result
Enter revenue and orders to get the average order value, and visits to get the conversion rate.
The average order value is shown rounded to the smallest currency unit, but backward calculations such as orders needed use the exact ratio, not the rounded value. Analytics tools count visits or sessions differently, so compare numbers from the same tool. The fact that order value can change when the conversion rate changes is not modelled.
What it is
Store revenue is the product of visits, conversion rate and average order value. More visits do not help if the conversion rate falls, and a higher order value raises revenue from the same number of orders. This AOV and conversion rate calculator takes revenue, orders and visits and returns the average order value, the conversion rate and the revenue per visit. Add a target revenue or a target conversion rate and it shows how many orders and visits you need, or how much revenue a better conversion rate would bring. Everything is calculated in your browser.
How to use
- Enter the revenue and the number of orders for the period.
- Enter the visits for the same period. Leave it empty to get only the order value.
- Enter a target revenue to get the orders and visits needed.
- Enter a target conversion rate to get orders and revenue with the same visits.
- Check the table and the formulas below.
How it works
- Average order value = revenue ÷ orders, rounded to the smallest currency unit.
- Conversion rate = orders ÷ visits and revenue per visit = revenue ÷ visits.
- Orders needed = target revenue ÷ order value, rounded up, and visits needed = orders needed ÷ conversion rate, rounded up.
- Backward calculations use the exact ratio (revenue ÷ orders), not the rounded order value.
- At the target rate orders = visits × target rate (rounded) and revenue = orders × order value.
- Orders must be at least 1 and cannot exceed visits.
Example
Revenue 10,000,000, 200 orders and 10,000 visits.
| Item | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Average order value | 10,000,000 ÷ 200 | 50,000 |
| Conversion rate | 200 ÷ 10,000 | 2% |
| Revenue per visit | 10,000,000 ÷ 10,000 | 1,000 |
| Target revenue 20,000,000 | 400 orders, 20,000 visits | 400 orders needed |
| Target rate 3% | 10,000 visits × 3% | 300 orders, 15,000,000 |
Common mistakes
Using different periods for orders and visits throws the conversion rate off, so always use the same period. Another common slip is entering page views as visits. Visits should be sessions or visitors. The target revenue calculation assumes the order value and conversion rate stay the same, so when you buy more traffic with ads and the rate drops, plan with some margin.
FAQ
How is the average order value calculated?
Revenue divided by the number of orders, so the average amount of one order. Revenue of 10,000,000 over 200 orders gives 50,000. It is shown rounded to the smallest currency unit.
How is the conversion rate calculated?
Orders divided by visits. With 10,000 visits and 200 orders it is 2%. Analytics tools count sessions or visitors differently, so use numbers from the same tool.
How are the orders and visits for a target revenue found?
Assuming today's order value and conversion rate stay the same, orders needed = target revenue ÷ order value and visits needed = orders needed ÷ conversion rate. Both are rounded up and use the exact ratio, not the rounded order value. A target of 20,000,000 needs 400 orders and 20,000 visits.
What does the target conversion rate show?
What orders and revenue would be if the conversion rate rose to the target with the same number of visits. With 10,000 visits at 3% that is 300 orders and, at an order value of 50,000, a revenue of 15,000,000.
What if I do not know the visits?
Leave visits empty. Then only the average order value is calculated and the conversion rate and revenue per visit are hidden. The orders needed for a target revenue do not require visits.
