Styled letters are separate symbols, not regular letters. Screen readers may read them out one symbol at a time or skip them, search may not match them, and some fonts show empty boxes. Use them sparingly in names and anything that must be read.

What it is

A fancy text generator for social bios, usernames, captions and chat. Type once and every style appears in a list: bold, italic, script, Fraktur, double-struck, sans-serif, monospace, circled, squared, parenthesized, fullwidth, small caps, strikethrough, underline, slashed, upside down and a Zalgo-style glitch, 25 in total. Each row has its own copy button. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type leaves your device.

How to use

  1. Type or paste text into the box. A sample phrase is filled in to start with.
  2. Scroll the list to compare styles. Every row updates as you type.
  3. Press Copy on the row you like and paste it wherever you want it.
  4. On the glitch row, choose Light, Medium or Heavy, and press Reshuffle for a different pattern.

How it works

  • Mathematical letters. Bold, italic, script, Fraktur, double-struck, sans-serif and monospace come from the Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block (U+1D400 to U+1D7FF). A few positions in that block are deliberately empty because the characters already existed in the Letterlike Symbols block, so those letters are filled from there: italic h is ℎ, script B is ℬ, Fraktur H is ℌ and double-struck C is ℂ, among others.
  • Digits are converted only where Unicode defines them: the bold, double-struck, sans-serif and monospace families. Italic and script keep regular digits.
  • Enclosed styles use Enclosed Alphanumerics. The negative circled and squared sets only have capitals, so lowercase input becomes uppercase.
  • Strikethrough, underline and slashed add a combining mark (U+0336, U+0332 or U+0338) after every visible character, leaving spaces alone. Some apps draw the line in segments.
  • Upside down replaces each character with a rotated look-alike and reverses the order. Capitals are flipped using their lowercase shapes.
  • Small caps use phonetic small capital letters. Q and X have no true small capital in Unicode, so close substitutes are used.
  • Text is processed by code point, so emoji are never split; keycap emoji such as 1️⃣ and #️⃣ and characters carrying the emoji presentation selector (❤️) are left as they are, and anything without a mapping passes through unchanged. Up to 3,000 characters can be converted.

Examples

Style Input Output
Bold Abc 1 𝐀𝐛𝐜 𝟏
Italic h ℎ
Script B ℬ
Double-struck C ℂ
Circled a1 ⓐ①
Upside down abc ɔqɐ
Strikethrough ab a̶b̶

A styled word looks like English to people, but to software it is a string of math symbols. Use it to decorate, not to carry the message.

FAQ

Does this change the font?

No. It swaps each letter for a different Unicode character that looks styled. Because the result is plain text, it keeps its look in places where you cannot pick a font, such as an Instagram bio, a comment box or a chat app.

Why are some letters not converted?

Unicode only defines styled versions for the basic Latin letters A to Z and the digits 0 to 9, and not every style has digits. Accented letters, Korean, Chinese, Japanese and emoji have no styled versions, so they are left as they are.

Why does it show empty boxes for my friend?

Their device has no font with a glyph for that character. The mathematical bold, italic and sans styles display on most current phones and computers, while negative squared letters and some small capitals can be missing on older systems.

Is fancy text bad for accessibility?

It can be. Screen readers often announce each styled letter by its symbol name, or skip it, and search engines and site search may not match it to normal words. Keep it for short decorative bits and write names, links and key information in normal text.

Why does the glitch text stay the same?

The random marks are seeded from your text, so the same text and strength always give the same result and nothing jumps around while you edit. Press Reshuffle to pick a new combination.
