What it is
A Pomodoro timer that alternates focus time and rest. The defaults are 25 minutes of focus and a 5 minute short break, with a 15 minute long break after every fourth focus session. Dots show how far through the current set you are, a list shows the next four phases with their lengths, and the page keeps count of finished sessions and the total focus time.
How to use
- Press Start to begin the first 25 minute session. Pause and Resume use the same button.
- When a phase ends the alarm sounds and the next one begins. With auto start off, press Start yourself.
- Skip to next moves on immediately; Start over returns to the first session.
- Change the lengths and the long break interval in the settings. They are locked while the timer runs.
- Fullscreen, alarm volume, test sound and browser notifications are in the controls below.
Shortcuts: Space starts or pauses, N skips the phase, R starts over and F toggles fullscreen.
How it works
- Order: focus 1, short break, focus 2, short break, focus 3, short break, focus 4, long break, focus 5, and so on. Only the Nth focus session is followed by the long break, where N is the interval you set.
- Accuracy: every phase stores its end time and the display uses the difference to
Date.now(). The next phase is chained from the exact end of the previous one, so hand-over delays do not add up. - Completed count: a focus session counts once its time has fully run and the break begins. A focus phase skipped with the skip button is not counted; it is shown separately as skipped.
- Alarm: a short beep pattern generated with the Web Audio API. Browser notifications ask for permission only when you tick the checkbox.
- Storage: settings and progress stay in this browser.
Examples
| Preset | Focus | Short break | Long break | One full set |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Classic | 25 min | 5 min | 15 min | 4×25 + 3×5 + 15 = 130 min |
| Deep work | 50 min | 10 min | 30 min | with a 2 session interval: 50+10+50+30 = 140 min |
| Light | 15 min | 3 min | 10 min | with a 4 session interval: 60+9+10 = 79 min |
FAQ
What is the Pomodoro Technique?
A time management method created by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. You work on one task for 25 minutes, take a 5 minute break, and after four such sessions take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. The name comes from the tomato shaped kitchen timer he used as a student.
Can I change the lengths and the long break interval?
Yes. Focus can be 1 to 180 minutes, short break 1 to 60, long break 1 to 120, and the long break can come every 2 to 12 sessions. The fields are locked while the timer is running; changing them while stopped updates the current phase right away.
Does the next phase start automatically?
By default it does, so after the alarm the next phase begins. Untick the auto start option if you want breaks to wait until you press Start.
Is it reliable in a background tab or after a reload?
Yes. Each phase stores its end timestamp and the remaining time is the difference to the current time, so a throttled tab does not drift. The remaining time is also in the tab title. If a phase ended while the page was closed, the timer waits at the next phase.
Will the alarm ring if my phone screen turns off?
While the timer runs, the page asks the browser to keep the screen on (Screen Wake Lock). Browsers without it, or a battery saver that refuses it, can still let the screen turn off, and a locked phone may delay or silence the alarm because browsers throttle background sound. For an alarm that matters, keep the screen on or lengthen the auto-lock time.
