Conversion settings
Turns a WebP saved from the web into a JPG that opens anywhere. Transparent WebP files are filled with the background color below, and animated ones keep only their first frame.
Higher is sharper and larger. At 90 the difference is usually hard to see.
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with this color. White by default.
EXIF data (camera, time, GPS location) is not carried over to the converted file. The photo orientation is applied.
Why convert WebP to JPG
WebP is an image format from Google that websites use widely to save bandwidth. After saving one, you may find that your viewer or Windows version will not open it, that a shop or government upload form rejects it as an unsupported type, or that an older document program cannot place it. JPG opens in practically every environment, which makes it the simplest fix. The conversion runs in your browser, so the images are not uploaded, and you can process up to 50 files and get them as a ZIP.
How to use
- Drop WebP files on the dashed area or press Choose WebP files. The check looks at the file contents rather than the extension, so a WebP named .jpg is handled too.
- If the image has transparent areas, choose the Background for transparent areas. White is the default.
- Quality starts at 90. Moving the slider rebuilds the results automatically.
- Download with Download or Download all (ZIP). Example:
banner.webpbecomesbanner.jpg.
Good to know
- Transparency: the alpha channel is flattened onto the background color. Matching it to the page where the image will sit avoids an awkward box.
- Animated WebP: only the first frame is converted.
- Quality and size: a lossless WebP often becomes much smaller as JPG, while a lossy WebP can come out similar or larger.
- Metadata: EXIF is not carried into the converted file.
- Dimensions: unchanged unless you limit the long edge.
Examples
| Situation | Setting |
|---|---|
| An upload form accepts only JPG | Quality 90 |
| Placing a transparent logo on a white document | Background white |
| Sending by chat or email | Quality 80, long edge 1600 px |
To keep transparency or get an editing master, use the WebP to PNG converter. To make photos lighter still, try the image compressor.
FAQ
Why did the image I saved come out as WebP?
Many sites serve WebP to cut download size, and the browser saves exactly what it received, so you end up with a .webp file. Some desktop apps, older programs and upload forms do not accept it, which is when a JPG helps.
Does converting WebP to JPG reduce quality?
Re-saving a lossy WebP as a lossy JPG does cost a little detail, which is why quality starts at a high 90. The difference is hard to see, but for images with text or thin lines try 95 or more.
What happens to transparent WebP files?
JPG cannot hold transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background color. It is white by default and you can change it with the color picker. If you need to keep transparency, use the WebP to PNG page instead.
Are animated WebP files supported?
Only the first frame is saved, as a single JPG, and the card tells you so. JPG cannot store motion.
The JPG is bigger than my WebP. Is that normal?
Yes, it can happen. At similar quality WebP is usually the smaller format, so you trade some size for compatibility. Lowering the quality or limiting the long edge brings it down.
