Hashtag Generator — Combine Keywords into Tags

Turn your own keywords into a clean, duplicate-free hashtag list

Runs in your browser · nothing is uploaded

Separate with commas, new lines or #. Spaces inside one item are removed, so the words join into one tag.

Where to add them

Output format

4 hashtags created.

Hashtags

#paris #paristravel #cafe #cafetravel

4 / 5 tags

37 / 2,200 characters (Instagram caption limit of 2,200 characters)

The 5-hashtag cap follows the Instagram @creators announcement (December 2025, reported by Social Media Today on 2025-12-18) (old cap 30; Instagram said it is rolling out gradually). The 2,200-character caption limit is from damdatools "SNS character count guide". Checked 2026-10-04. Rules change, so check the app before you post.

What it is

A hashtag generator that builds tags from words you choose. Put your core topics in the keywords box and, if you like, a few words to attach to them. With keywords “paris, cafe” and words “travel, food” you get #paris #paristravel #parisfood #cafe #cafetravel #cafefood in one go. It saves typing every combination by hand and drops repeats.

There is no recommendation engine behind it and no trend lookup. What comes out is exactly what your own words make. Next to the result you see how many tags you have against Instagram’s 5-tag cap and how long the block is against the 2,200-character caption limit. All processing happens in your browser and nothing is saved.

How to use

  1. Type your keywords. Separate them with commas, new lines or #.
  2. Optionally add words to combine. Leave the box empty to tag only the keywords.
  3. Choose where those words go: After, Before or Both.
  4. Turn keyword-only tags, lowercase and the first-5 limit on or off.
  5. Pick spaces or one tag per line, and press Shuffle if you want a different order.
  6. Check the tag and character counts, then press Copy and paste into your post.

How it works

  • Splitting: commas (including the full-width “,” and “、”), new lines and # start a new item. Spaces inside an item are removed so the words join.
  • Allowed characters: text is normalised to Unicode NFC, then only letters in any script, combining marks, digits and the underscore are kept. Emoji, punctuation and hyphens are removed (Instagram does accept emoji tags, but they travel poorly to other platforms and search, so this tool keeps letters and digits only), and items left empty are dropped.
  • Combination order: for each keyword, the keyword-only tag comes first (when that option is on), then each extra word in order as keyword+word (After), word+keyword (Before), or both one after the other (Both). With no extra words, keyword tags are always made.
  • Duplicates: tags are compared without regard to case and only the first occurrence is kept, so “Paris” and “paris” count as one. The number removed is shown above the result.
  • Lowercase: when on, letters that have case are lowercased. It is off by default.
  • 5-tag cap: per the Instagram @creators announcement of December 2025, a post or reel takes up to 5 hashtags (the old cap was 30; checked 2026-10-04). With the limit on, the first 5 in creation order are kept and shuffling reorders those 5. Turn it off to see the full list and pick your own five.
  • Character count: the whole output, including # signs and separators, is counted in user-perceived characters and compared with the 2,200-character Instagram caption limit (damdatools “SNS character count guide”, checked 2026-10-04).
  • Shuffle: each press uses a new seed. Switching the output format keeps the current order.
  • Each box takes up to 5,000 characters, and up to 1,000 combinations can be made before duplicates are removed.

Before you post

Some combinations may be phrases nobody searches for, so skim the list and delete anything awkward. Platform rules change from time to time, so it is worth confirming the limits in the app itself.

FAQ

Does it suggest trending or popular hashtags?

No. It has no trend data and calls no outside service. It only combines the words you type. Look up what people actually use in each app's search, then use this tool to join and tidy those words quickly.

What happens to a keyword with a space, like "new york"?

Hashtags cannot contain spaces, so spaces inside one item are removed and the words are joined into #newyork. If you want two separate tags, put a comma or a new line between the words.

Isn't the Instagram limit 30 hashtags?

It used to be. In December 2025 Instagram's official @creators account announced that posts and reels would be capped at five hashtags (reported by Social Media Today on 2025-12-18), and extra tags are ignored. Instagram said the change rolls out gradually, so some accounts may still accept more for a while. This tool uses 5 (checked 2026-10-04). Above 5 the count turns red, and with "Keep only the first 5" ticked only the first five tags in creation order are kept.

Does changing the output format reshuffle my tags?

No. The shuffled order stays put and only the separator changes between spaces and new lines. Press Shuffle again for a new order, or Original order to go back.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent to a server.
