What it does

Markdown is pleasant to write, but a PDF is easier to share with people who have no Markdown viewer. Paste Markdown or open a .md file and this tool lays it out as a PDF with proper headings, lists, tables and code blocks. It writes the PDF file directly, so there is no print dialog and it works on phones too.

How to use

  1. Paste Markdown into the box or press Open .md or .txt file. Insert example shows what it can do.
  2. Choose the paper (A4 or Letter), body text size (10, 11 or 12 pt), margins and whether to add page numbers.
  3. Press Create PDF. A preview of the first page and a download button appear.
  4. After editing, press Create PDF again.

How it works

  • Parsing: marked (MIT) with GitHub Flavored Markdown.
  • Line breaking: Latin and Korean break at spaces, Chinese and Japanese characters between any two characters, and words longer than a line are split.
  • Page breaks: a heading is never left alone at the bottom of a page, and long tables repeat their header row on each page.
  • Bold and italic: Helvetica Bold and Oblique for Latin text. The Korean font has a single weight, so bold is drawn with an outline and italic with a slant.
  • Links: http, https and mailto links become clickable link annotations.
  • Engine: pdf-lib (MIT) in a Web Worker.

Examples

FAQ

Which Markdown features are supported?

GitHub Flavored Markdown via marked: headings 1–6, bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, ordered and bullet lists (nested, with task check boxes), fenced code blocks, block quotes, horizontal rules, tables with alignment and links.

Which fonts does the PDF use?

Latin-only documents use the PDF standard fonts Helvetica and Courier, so no font is embedded. Text with Korean, Japanese kana or other characters outside Latin-1 embeds a subset of Noto Sans KR (SIL Open Font License), served from this site.

What about emoji and Chinese characters?

The embedded font has no emoji and no Han characters, so those are left out and listed after conversion rather than printed as empty boxes.

Are images included?

No outside address is ever loaded. Images appear as [Image: description] in italics, and raw HTML keeps only its text.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The PDF is built in a Web Worker in your browser with pdf-lib; only the font file is fetched from this site when it is needed.
