Video Frame Capture — Save a Still From Video
Pick any frame of a video, step by single frames, and save it at full resolution
Runs in your browser · nothing is uploaded
Drop a video file here
One video your browser can play, such as MP4, WebM or MOV. It plays straight from your device and is never uploaded.
What it does
This tool saves any moment of a video file as a picture: a child’s smile, a whiteboard in a lecture, a thumbnail for your channel, the frame of dash-cam footage where a licence plate is readable. You can step one frame at a time, which is more precise than a screenshot, and frames are saved at the video’s original resolution. Capture several moments and download them all as a ZIP.
How to use
- Drop a video file or click Choose video.
- Play it, drag the Position slider, or use Go to time (for example 1:23.5) to get near the moment.
- Use Forward/Back 1 frame and Forward/Back 1 second to land on the exact frame. In the boxed controls area, ←/→ moves one frame, Shift+←/→ one second, and Enter captures.
- Choose PNG or JPG and click Capture this frame.
- Download frames one by one from the list below, or all at once as a ZIP.
How it works
- Resolution: frames are saved at the video’s real pixel size (videoWidth × videoHeight), scaled down only above the device limit (16,777,216 pixels on iPhone and iPad, 16,384 px per side).
- Frame steps: with the chosen frame rate, the current frame number is time × fps rounded down; the player then seeks to the middle of the target frame, which avoids landing on a boundary that still shows the previous frame.
- Videos without a duration: some WebM files from screen recorders do not store their length. The tool seeks to the end once to learn it, then returns to the start.
- File names: videoname_minutes-seconds.milliseconds.png (for example trip_01-23.250.png).
- Limit: up to 60 captures are kept in the list at a time, to save memory.
Examples
| Video | Action | Result |
|---|---|---|

| lecture.webm, 1280×720 | Three captures, stepping by frames | 3 PNGs, downloaded as a ZIP |
| iPhone 4K 60 fps MOV | 60 fps, JPG 92 | 3840×2160 JPG |

FAQ
How is this different from a screenshot?
A screenshot captures the player at its on-screen size, controls and all. This tool saves only the frame, at the video's own resolution (for example 1920×1080), and lets you step frame by frame to catch the right moment.
One-frame steps drift a little.
Browsers do not report a video's frame rate, so you pick it. Phone videos are usually 30 or 60, films and some cameras 24, European broadcast formats 25, and North American or Korean broadcast formats and some cameras 29.97, 59.94 or 23.976. With the right rate, each step moves exactly one frame.
My video will not open.
Only videos your browser can play will open. iPhone HEVC (H.265) MOV files do not play in every browser and operating system, and MKV may not either. Try the latest Chrome, Edge or Safari, or convert to MP4 (H.264).
Do large videos work?
Yes. Nothing is uploaded; the browser plays the file straight from your device, so files up to 4 GB open. A single PNG from a 4K video can be several megabytes, though.
Where are the captures saved?
They collect in the list at the bottom of the page and are saved to your device when you download them. Nothing goes to a server.
