Barcode Generator — EAN-13, UPC & Code 128

Creates Code 128, EAN-13, UPC and ITF barcodes as SVG or PNG with automatic check digits

Runs in your browser · nothing is uploaded

A general-purpose barcode for letters, digits and symbols (ASCII). Common on shipping labels, inventory and asset tags.

When printing, do not shrink the code and keep the white margin (quiet zone) around the bars. For retail codes (EAN, UPC), a bar width of 2 px or more is recommended.

What it does

Type a number or code and get a one-dimensional barcode that scanners can read: retail EAN-13 for marketplace listings, Code 128 for inventory and asset labels, ITF-14 for cartons, and UPC-A for the US market. Retail codes get their final check digit calculated automatically, and if you type a wrong one you are told the correct digit.

How to use

  1. Choose the Barcode type. Code 128 for mixed letters and digits, EAN-13 for product numbers.
  2. Enter the Value to encode. For EAN-13, 12 digits are enough and the 13th check digit is added. Spaces and hyphens are ignored.
  3. Adjust bar width, height, margin, the digits under the bars, and the bar and background colours.
  4. Check the preview, then click Save SVG or Save PNG (1×, 2× or 4×).

How it works

  • Code 128: printable ASCII (letters, digits, space, symbols), up to 80 characters.
  • EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8, ITF-14: 12, 11, 7 or 13 digits get a GS1 check digit (weights 3 and 1 from the right, modulo 10); 13, 12, 8 or 14 digits are checked.
  • ITF: digits are drawn in pairs, so an even count is required.
  • Code 39: upper-case letters, digits, space and - . $ / + %, up to 43 characters. Lower case is converted.
  • Prefix notes: an EAN-13 starting with 880 is flagged as GS1 Korea, 978/979 as a book (ISBN) and 977 as a serial (ISSN), following the prefix list in the GS1 General Specifications.
  • Contrast: a warning appears when the bars are not clearly darker than the background (light bars or a contrast below 3:1).
  • Drawing uses JsBarcode (MIT licence).

FAQ

Can I get an official product barcode number here?

No. The tool draws a number you already have. Official GTINs come from your national GS1 organisation (for example GS1 US or GS1 UK) once you license a company prefix.

What is a check digit?

The last digit, used to catch misreads. For EAN-13 it comes from the first 12 digits: counting from the right, odd positions are multiplied by 3 and even positions by 1, and the check digit makes the total a multiple of 10. Type 12 digits and it is added.

Can a barcode hold non-Latin text?

Linear barcodes such as Code 128 and Code 39 carry letters, digits and symbols only. For Korean, Chinese, emoji or long addresses, use the QR code generator.

SVG or PNG?

SVG stays sharp at any size and suits print, label software and design work. PNG at 2× or 4× is easiest for documents and chat.

Are my barcodes stored on a server?

No. They are drawn in your browser and stored nowhere.
