What it does
Renaming hundreds of photos to trip_001.jpg, stripping junk from downloaded file names or lower-casing extensions one by one takes forever. Add the files here, set the rules, check the preview of every new name, and download a ZIP with the renamed copies. No installation, and the files never leave your browser.
How to use
- Drop the files or press Choose files (up to 2,000 files, 1 GB in total).
- Set the rules: find and replace, text before and after, numbering (start, step, digits, separator), letter case, spaces and extension.
- For numbering, choose the order: as added, name, date modified or size.
- Check the preview table and press Download renamed files.
- Reset rules starts over.
How it works
- Order of rules: NFC normalization → find and replace → spaces → letter case → numbering → before/after text → extension → cleanup of forbidden characters → duplicates.
- Extension: everything after the last dot. Names starting with a dot (
.env) have no extension. Find/replace and letter case apply to the name without the extension. - Forbidden characters:
/,\and control characters become_, trailing dots and spaces are removed, and Windows device names (CON, NUL…) get a leading_. - Decomposed Korean: names from a Mac may store Hangul decomposed (NFD); the NFC option joins the letters again.
- ZIP: files are stored uncompressed with UTF-8 names, using fflate (MIT).

FAQ
Does it rename the files on my computer?
Browsers cannot rename files on your disk, so you get the files under their new names in one ZIP. The contents are stored without recompression, so they are byte-for-byte identical. A single file downloads directly under its new name.
How do I number photos in the order they were taken?
Set Numbering to "Name becomes number" and the numbering order to Date modified. Camera photos usually keep the capture time as their modification date. Name order is natural, so file2 comes before file10.
How do regular expressions work here?
Turn on Regular expression to search with JavaScript syntax and use $1, $2 for groups in the replacement. For example, find `(\d{4})-(\d{2})-(\d{2})` and replace with `$1$2$3` turns 2026-10-05 into 20261005. With it off, the text is matched literally.
What happens when two files end up with the same name?
Names are compared case-insensitively; later duplicates get " (1)", " (2)" before the extension, and the preview says how many.
Are files uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser and the ZIP is made on your device.
