Split PDF Pages in Half — Spreads to Pages
Browser tool that cuts each PDF page into two halves, left/right or top/bottom
Runs in your browser · nothing is uploaded

Add one PDF (up to 100 MB). Adding another file replaces the current one. Files never leave your browser.
What it does
When you scan an open book two pages at a time, or an A3 sheet printed with two A4 pages side by side, each PDF page holds two real pages. This tool cuts such pages along a vertical line (left and right) or a horizontal line (top and bottom) so that each half becomes its own page. Pages saved with a rotation are judged by how they look on screen. Everything runs in your browser.
How to use
- Drop one PDF on the dashed area or press Choose PDF.
- Choose the Cut direction: left | right (vertical line) or top / bottom (horizontal line).
- Choose the Reading order: left first for most books, right first for right-to-left books.
- If the fold is off-centre, change the Cut position and check the dashed line on the preview.
- Decide whether to keep the covers whole, press Cut pages in half and download the result.
How it works
- Method: each page is copied twice and its media, crop, trim, bleed and art boxes are set to one half of the visible area (the crop box). Content is not redrawn, so there is no quality loss.
- Rotated pages: left, right, top and bottom follow the page as shown on screen, and both halves keep the page’s rotation.
- Cut position: 10 to 90 percent from the left (or top) edge, up to two decimals.
- Page count: every page that is cut becomes two; with the cover kept whole, 10 pages become 19.
- Not kept: bookmarks and document properties are not copied; annotations such as links and form fields that fall outside a half are not visible on it.
- Limits: files up to 100 MB. PDFs that need a password to open, or that carry editing restrictions, cannot be opened.
- Libraries: pdf-lib (MIT) writes the file and PDF.js (Apache-2.0) draws the preview.
Examples
| Source | Setting | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 20 A3 landscape scans, two A4 pages each | Left/right, left first, 50% | 40 A4 portrait pages |
| Right-to-left manga spreads | Left/right, right half first | Right page first |
| Two pages printed one above the other | Top/bottom, top first | Top, then bottom |
| Cover plus 9 spreads | Keep the first page whole | 1 + 18 = 19 pages |
If some halves come out upside down, use Rotate PDF. If fronts and backs were scanned separately, use Interleave PDF.
FAQ
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Cutting happens in your browser only and the file is never uploaded.
Does cutting lower the quality?
No. Pages are not redrawn. Each page is copied twice and the visible area (the page boxes) of each copy is set to one half. Text stays text and images keep their resolution. The hidden half is still stored in the file, so the result can be a little larger than the original.
My book reads right to left.
Choose "Right half first" under Reading order, and the right half of every page comes first. Use it for vertical Japanese or Chinese books and manga. When cutting top/bottom you can choose top or bottom first.
The fold is not exactly in the middle.
Bindings often push the fold to one side. Enter a cut position between 10 and 90 percent, for example 47 or 52.5, instead of 50. A dashed red line on the preview shows where the cut falls.
I do not want the cover cut.
Turn on "Keep the first page (cover) whole" and "Keep the last page (back cover) whole" to keep those pages as single pages.
