Format

JPG cannot store transparency, so those areas are filled with this colour.

Reads black-and-white scanner and fax TIFFs (CCITT G3/G4) as well as LZW, PackBits, Deflate and JPEG compression, 16-bit and CMYK images. Pages larger than this device can handle are scaled down.

What it does

TIFF (TIF) is the image format of scanners, fax machines, print shops and professional photo software. It is lossless and can hold many pages in one file, but phone galleries, chat apps and upload forms often refuse it. This tool converts TIFF into JPG or PNG that opens anywhere and splits multi-page files into one image per page, which is handy for checking a scanned document or forwarding a fax.

How to use

  1. Drop TIFF files or click Choose TIFF files. Up to 50 at once.
  2. Pick JPG or PNG under Format. JPG has a quality setting.
  3. When each card shows its page count, use a page’s Download button or Download all (ZIP).
  4. Changing a setting converts the whole list again with the new setting.

How it works

  • Type check: the II* / MM* marker at the start of the file decides whether it is a TIFF, not the extension.
  • Pages: every image directory (IFD) is read in order; preview copies marked as reduced resolution (NewSubfileType 1) are skipped.
  • Colour: bilevel (1-bit), greyscale, RGB, palette, CMYK and 16-bit images become 8-bit screen RGB. An alpha channel is kept in PNG and filled with the background colour (white by default) in JPG.
  • Size limit: pages larger than the browser can handle at once (16,777,216 pixels on iPhone and iPad, 16,384 px per side) are scaled down with the aspect ratio kept, and the card says so.
  • Names: one page keeps the original name (name.jpg); several pages become name-p01.jpg and so on.
  • Decoding uses UTIF.js (MIT licence, Photopea).

Examples

File Settings Result
contract.tif (bilevel G4, 5 pages) PNG contract-p01.png … contract-p05.png
scan.tiff (colour LZW, 1 page) JPG, quality 90 scan.jpg
drawing.tif (16-bit RGB) PNG drawing.png (8-bit)

For scans that came as a PDF, use PDF to JPG; to bundle the images back into one PDF, use JPG to PDF.

FAQ

How are multi-page TIFFs saved?

Each page is saved separately with a page number such as -p01, -p02 after the file name. With several results, Download all (ZIP) gets them at once. Up to 200 pages per file are converted.

Do black-and-white scanner TIFFs work?

Yes. CCITT G3 and G4 compressed TIFFs from fax machines and document scanners are read, as are LZW, PackBits, Deflate and JPEG compression, 16-bit and CMYK images.

Which TIFFs cannot be opened?

TIFFs compressed with JPEG 2000, WebP, Zstd or LZMA, and BigTIFF (the format for files over 4 GB). The tool tells you which compression a file uses.

JPG or PNG?

JPG keeps photos small; PNG keeps black-and-white documents, drawings and transparent images crisp.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Every conversion happens in your browser.
