FreeCell Solitaire — Free Online Card Game
A classic solitaire game where a little empty space makes all the difference
Runs in your browser · nothing is uploaded
ONE CARD AT A TIME
FreeCell
A little space goes a long way.
On small screens, swipe the table sideways.
How to play
Drag a card, or the first card of an ordered run, to its destination with your mouse. You can also select the card and destination in turn. Build columns downward in alternating colors. A free cell holds one card; foundations build from A to K in the same suit. You may move cards back out of foundations. Invalid drops leave cards in place.
You can move up to (empty free cells + 1) × 2 to the power of available empty columns. An empty destination column does not count.
Keyboard: use Tab to navigate, Enter or Space to select, and Escape to clear your selection or cancel a drag.
About
FreeCell is a solo card game that starts with every card face up. Use eight columns and four temporary free cells to organize the deck. Win by moving all 52 cards to four foundations, one for each suit, from ace to king. Play directly in your browser without an account or installation.
How to play
- Grab a card, or the first card of an ordered run, with your mouse and drag it.
- Drop on a destination with a highlighted border. You can also click or tap the card and then its destination.
- To change your selection, select its column again or use Clear selection.
- Undo restores the previous move. Restart restores the same original deal. New game shuffles a new deck.
- Use Tab to navigate, Enter or Space to select, and Escape to clear a selection. On a narrow screen, scroll the table sideways.
Rules and behavior
- Build columns downward by one rank, alternating red and black. Any card or movable run may fill an empty column.
- Each free cell holds exactly one card.
- Foundations build upward in a single suit: A, 2, 3, …, Q, K. Ace is low; ranks do not wrap around.
- Run moves represent a series of legal single-card moves. Their maximum size is
(empty free cells + 1) × 2^(temporary empty columns). Exclude the destination when it is an empty column. - The move counter shows the length of your current move history. Undo decreases it and restart resets it. The game reports when no legal move remains; an available move does not guarantee that a deal can be won.
- The browser shuffles cards with cryptographic randomness. This game does not reproduce numbered deals or check whether a deal has a solution.
Example
A black 8 followed by a red 7 and a black 6 forms an ordered run. You can move that run onto a red 9 if you have enough temporary space. With two empty free cells and no temporary empty columns, you can move three cards. With no empty free cells and one temporary empty column, the limit is two cards, so the three-card run cannot move together.
FAQ
Can I drag cards with my mouse?
Yes. Drag a card or the first card of an ordered run onto a highlighted destination. Dropping outside the table or on an invalid destination leaves the cards in place. Escape cancels a drag. On a phone, tap the card and then its destination.
Is every deal solvable?
No solvability guarantee is provided. Each game uses a randomly shuffled deck. Try undo or restart to explore the same deal, or choose New game for another layout.
How many cards can I move together?
An ordered run may contain at most (F+1)×2^E cards, where F is the number of empty free cells and E is the number of temporary empty columns. An empty destination column does not count toward E.
Can I move cards back out of a foundation?
Yes. You may move the top card of a foundation to an empty free cell or a column that accepts it under the normal rules.
Is my progress saved?
The current deal and undo history exist only in page memory. Refreshing or leaving the page clears them. Game state is not uploaded or written to browser storage.
